After an extension, federal taxes are due on Wednesday, July 15th. If you typically dread tax season during a ‘normal’ year, you might be finding yourself more anxious this year, given the impact that COVID-19 has had on personal finances for millions of Americans.
Although Qapital members have stepped up their emergency savings during the pandemic, many may still struggle to pay their 2019 taxes, especially if their earnings have taken a dive in 2020. A great way to reduce expenses is to file your federal taxes for free – thereby potentially saving hundreds of dollars, depending on your income.
‘Free’ might sound too good to be true, but bear with us. If you can answer ‘yes’ to one or more of the questions below, you may be eligible to file your taxes for no charge:
- Was your adjusted gross income in 2019 below $59,000?
- If you were active duty military in 2019, was your adjusted gross income below $69,000?
- Did you qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in 2019? (Hint – this depends on your income and number of qualifying dependent, minor children)
- Are you 51 or younger?
